Francis Wyman C.A.R.E.S. Assembly

C is for compassion
A is for accomplishment
R is for respect
E is for enthusiasm
S is for self reliant

We gathered together in the gym for an assembly.

Our new mascot is the Falcon.   Ms. Pavlichek, from the Buelington Scince Center, surprised us with a real falcon.

We played pin the feather on the turkey and ended the assembly with a dance.
Happy Thanksgiving!

A Special Visitor

Have you heard about the baby snapping turtle?  Miss Pavlichek, from the Burlington Science Center, brought a baby snapping turtle to our room.  The snapping turtle will stay in our room for a few weeks.  As part of our nonfiction writing program, we will research turtles and record our findings in a research notebook.

Week One of Kindergarten

What a great week we had together!  When the children enter the classroom they put their folders in a bin, move their name on the lunch graph and then we gather on the rug for our Morning Meeting.  After morning meeting we work at centers.  This week during center time we painted apple trees, cut and pasted collages, illustrated a poem for our poetry books, and drew self portraits.  The artwork is on display in the classroom and the hallway.  Come to open house on Tuesday, September 16 at 6:00 PM to see all our work!

Week of May 19

Important Dates
Monday, May 26 - No School - Memorial Day
Friday, May 30 - Nature Walk Field Trip

Our tadpoles were set free earlier this week.  Unfortunately, our tadpoles did not grow legs.  We were able observe Mrs. Began's tadpoles, many of which grew legs.  One grew into an adult wood frog.

Photo above is Mrs. Began's wood frog.

We are having better luck with our Painted Lady caterpillars.  Today we released two adult butterflies.

Last week the children enjoyed a fun field day!

Signs of Spring

Wood Frog Eggs

We have wood frog eggs in the classroom.  Hopefully, the eggs will hatch over the weekend and we will have tadpoles on Monday.

Below is a beautiful poem about pussy willows.

Pussy Willows

Close your eyes
and do not peek
and I"ll rub Spring
across your cheek-
smooth as satin
soft and sleek-
close your eyes
and do not peek.
