Happy Halloween!

The children were excited to parade around the school in their Halloween costumes.  Back in the room we sang and danced to Halloween music, read In a Dark, Dark, Wood, and turned off the lights and read in the dark!  What fun!

Week of October 24

Reminder - FW's school wide Halloween parade is on Monday, October 31 @ 9:00 AM.  Parents and siblings are invited.  Children may wear costume to school or bring costume to school and change before the parade. Don't forget to bring in a flashlight for our "reading in the dark" activity.

Luna Moth

On Friday, Ms. P. dropped off  a Luna Moth cocoon.  Today the moth emerged from its cocoon.  What a thrill!   Tomorrow we will release the moth and watch it fly away looking for a mate.

FW Garden

Did you know there is a vegetable garden at Francis Wyman?  The Victory Garden grows vegetables for the Burlington Food Pantry and there are planting beds for lease.  In the works is a garden for Francis Wyman School.  Today with the help of Mr. Coppola we planted Lincoln and Tom Thumb peas.

Can you predict the weather with clouds?

Mr. M. taught us how to use clouds to predict the weather that is coming.  

Cirrus Coulds - sunny, nice weather

The sun can shine through cirrus clouds.

Stratus Clouds - cooler, poor weather

Cirrus clouds cover the sky and bring chilly weather.

Cumulus Clouds - warm fair weather

The sun is shining brightly and make the clouds lumpy and puffy.

Cumulonimbus Clouds bring dangerous weather!  The weather is going to be bad, windy and rainy,

Fog clouds are Mr.'s favorite clouds.  It is a cloud that has come to the ground.  Fog clouds block our abilitity to see.  

Mr. M. showed  us how to make a cloud.  Clouds are made up of three ingredients;

water, heat, and cold air.

How to make a cloud.  

1.  Heat up water

2.  Put snow or ice in an aluminum pie plate

3.  Cover with aluminum pie plate
