Our final block zoos . . .

A big thank you to Ms. P., from the science center, for presenting a fun filled hedgehog presentation.

*Ask your child how a hedgehog protects himself.  A hedgehog has quills, it can tuck himself in a ball, and it makes noises.
*What does a hedgehog eat?  A hedgehog eats fruits, vegetables, eggs, snakes, spiders, snails, mice, and scorpions. But the hedgehog's favorite food is insects.  An animal that eats insects as an insectivore.

Model of a quill.

Look closely and you will see a quill on Ms. P.'s finger.

Veterans Day and Clouds with Mr. Musselman

Save the Date!
Thursday, December 21 @ 9 AM
FW Auditorium
Family and friends are invited to the Kindergarten Ballet.  The kindergarten classes will perform dances from the Nutcracker Ballet.  Stay tuned for more information.

Last week we gathered in the gymnasium for a Veterans Day Assembly.  Kindergarten recited a poem titled, The Flag.  Fifth Graders from Room 202  demonstrated how to fold the American Flag.   Ms. Gendron performed Taps.

In honor of Veterans Day, we made an American flag.  Be sure to ask your child about the American flag.  How many stars are on the flag?  How many stripes are on the flag?

A big thank you to Mr. Musselman from the Burlington Science for visiting the kindergarten classrooms and sharing with us his knowledge on clouds.

What did we learn?

Clouds come in different shapes and form in different parts of the sky.  Different kinds of clouds tell us about different kinds of weather.
Cirrus Clouds - form very high in the sky, where it is cold and can form before a storm
Cumulus Clouds - look like puffy cotton balls, they form low in the sky
Nimbus Clouds - rain may be on the way
Stratus Clouds - are like damp sheets, hang low in the sky and often cover the whole sky, rain or snow may be on the way

Can you make your own cloud?  Yes, Mr. M. showed us how. . .   Clouds are made up of three ingredients, water, heat and cold air.

Block Zoos, Halloween Photos and Flying Machines

Young architects at work building block zoos  . . .

Here we are dressed up in our Halloween costumes.

Be sure to ask your child about the Mean Old With in the Flying Machine.
The strangest sight I've ever seen was a mean old witch in a flying machine.
The witch flew high.
The witch flew low.
The witch flew fast.
The witch few slow.
The witch flew up.
The witch flew down.
She circled all around the town.
Turning right she disappeared into the night.
That mean old witch in a flying machine was strangest sight I've ever seen.
And of course, it happened on Halloween.
